TLDR: Review of the Seiko SKX007 vs SKX009

Product Description(s)

Just like most Seiko timepieces and other similar watches, the SKX007 and SKX009 are water-resistant up to 200 meters and have a Seiko logo.

These two watches are both water-resistant, which allows you to swim, deep dive, and spend more time underwater except for scuba diving.

The SKX007 and SKX009 are ideal for wearers who seek a dive watch that can stand a minimal amount of water.

Another similar feature of the Seiko SKX007 and SKX009 watches is its LumiBrite hands and markers, which let you read time during nighttime or low-light situations and places. Thanks to this useful feature, you’ll be able to save more time and energy.

The SKX007 watch also includes an auto relay feature, which sets the time automatically and correctly. This model also offers a hacking and hand winding feature, which can bother some people. However, you can also buy this without the features for a lower price.

This simple feature will save you a lot of time and energy since there is no need to set your dive watch in case its battery dies.

Another feature to look at the SKX007 watch is the chapter ring, which is pretty cool and also known as the tick marks for the minutes. This feature is also mainly held in place with the crystal, so you can move the ring slightly to put it back in place.

Another difference between these two great watches is their bezel. The SKX007 includes a black bezel. On the other hand, the SKX009 includes a navy blue bezel stick.

Lastly, the SKX007 and SKX009 both feature a quartz automatic movement, which offers you accurate time. Luckily, Seiko has been one of the first brands to create watches with this automatic movement.

Quality and Durability

The Seiko SKX007 and SKX009 also include a polished stainless steel case, which helps enhance the watches’ durability and look.

Apart from the stainless steel case, both watches are also scratch-resistant, thanks to the Hardlex crystal compared to the Sapphire glass. It also feels lightweight and crisp on the wrist.

The SKX007 is an automatic watch and does not require batteries to function, just like most Seiko watches. Normally, these two watches are powered by the arm movement of the wearer. Aside from that, these watches also include a power reserve, which equips the watch to operate when not in use.

Additional Features

The only difference between the SKX009 from the SKX007 is its fold-over clasp and a multi-language option. This unique feature cannot be found on the SKX007, and it lets you change the language from English to French or Japanese by unlocking the crown and turning it counterclockwise.

Once you hear the first click, pull out the crown and turn it clockwise until you reach the previous date. Next, turn the crown counterclockwise until yesterday’s date in your desired language.

Another feature to admire about the Seiko SKX007 is its day and date window that you can view at a glimpse. Seiko values their consumers’ busy schedules, so they added a date window for their benefit.

Who is it Best For?

The Seiko SKX007 and SKX009 are both best for watch collectors who are looking for a Seiko watch, more specifically the Seiko SKX series, that they can use for doing water activities and daily activities.

What Do People Say About it?

An Amazon customer named Romo Maloul rated the Casio SKX007 five stars and described it as a “very handsome watch for the money.”

He explained, “Great design and jubilee band, very handsome cut to the glass. Great watch for the money, and I would highly recommend it to almost anyone. This automatic watch is best suited to wear every day as a dress watch, or it will stop keeping time.”

He also added, “Setting the time is a little more complex than I would like, but ultimately it’s not too bad. Read the instructions carefully to avoid damage to the automatic movement. The date will show the second language, which in my case was Spanish, late at night. This doesn’t mean your watch isn’t working. I was confused at first with this.”

Seabass rated the Casio SKX009 watch five stars and called it a “fantastic watch.” He wrote, “It’s been about a year now since I’ve owned this watch, and I still love it. I’ve gone back and forth between natos and rubber straps, but I always come back to the jubilee bracelet. Not much I can say that hasn’t been said about this icon. It’s just a great watch for the money.”

However, Mickey Hoss was disappointed by the product and left negative feedback. “I thought Seiko would be a good watch investment, however not the one I selected. It kept perfect for about seven weeks and then started losing time. It started stopping at times after that,” he wrote.

“I thought wearing it 24/7 (except when showering) would keep it wound but not. I purchased an auto winder, but that made no difference. I have several watches that cost less than this Seiko and never had a problem. To top it off, I had to pay $32.24 to ship it back to the factory even under warranty.”

The Urban Gentry uploaded a YouTube video comparing the Seiko SKX007 vs SKX009 to see which he recommended more. “If you can, my advice is to try and try them on. If you go to a store, you may see some department stores actually carry them. That’s the first bit of advice,” he said.

“Now, if you can’t do that, here are some of the most important things you should take away from this: the 007 and 009 both share the same movement and most features apart from those changes. But there is actually an advantage to the Pepsi bezel, which is to get a quicker reading when using that dive time bezel. It’s very simple but actually quite effective.”

However, he also mentioned the downside of the bezel, which is less compatible. “Red and blue don’t always match. Obviously, the monochromatic scheme of the 007 is far more compatible. That is the biggest thing to keep in mind to decide between the two.”

Bruce Williams also created a Seiko SKX007 vs SKX009 review. “These are fantastic little affordable watches. They’re automatic movements, ISO-certified divers, extremely robust, and reliable. We’ve got a quirky design for them and they’ve been in production unchanged for 20 years. The best part is they’re extremely affordable.”

The Verdict: Should You Buy It?

Seiko produces the best dive watches, but we’ve created an in-depth Seiko SKX007 vs SKX009 review to see which is the better watch. These similar watches both offer excellent features such as water resistance, durable construction, and stylish design. However, they also share a few differences.

We highly recommend the SKX007 if your personal preference is simplicity and quality. However, it does feature hacking and hand winding, which can annoy some people. If you prefer more versatility and more amazing features such as a multi-language option, then go for the SKX009.
