Dive watch, sports watch, and tool watch… Both the Invicta 9937 and the Rolex Submariner are all of these things.
The Invicta watches are known for their affordable luxury timepieces while the Rolex watches are most recognizable for their luxury watches. Thanks to Rolex’s extremely high product quality that allows users to extend the usage of their watches over the years.
Invicta 9937 and the Rolex Submariner, in particular, are timepieces known to have defied its underwater branding and even became an icon also on dry land. While some people think that the Rolex Submariner is too common compared to other watches for men in the market today, it’s not really true.
The significance of the Submariner is linked to the fact that Rolex introduced innovative features early on that have made the timepiece still well-suited for everyday wear up to this year. In fact, the reason for its power is how unchanged its no-date sub has almost been since it was first released to the public.
And just like Rolex, Invicta 9937 also maintained the core designs: large markers, black dial, and black bezel. But in terms of overall design and function, which watch would you prefer? The Invicta 9937 or the Rolex Submariner?
That’s what we’re going to find out today in this Invicta 9937 vs Rolex Submariner comparison. Keep on reading to know more about the similarities and major differences between the two watch models!
TLDR: Invicta 9937 vs Rolex Submariner Comparison
At first glance, the Invicta-9937 Men’s Pro Diver Collection can be mistaken for a Rolex because of their shared differences in looks. It’s like the watch casing, font of the numeral, date display with cyclops, and the bezel are 99% the same.
Design & Comfort
However, on a closer inspection, you will notice the differences. The Invicta 9937 has a timeless design: a clean black dial, a polished stainless steel case, and a durable stainless steel band that joins the case.
The watch is also topped by an ion-coated, black unidirectional coin-edge bezel imprinted with Arabic numeral minute indicators and white indexes. The Rolex Submariner Mechanical Watch uses the same style too. However, you’ll notice that the markers of the Invicta are proportionally smaller as compared to Rolex.
Both watches (Invicta 9937 and the Rolex Submariner) have a date window at the 3-o’clock position. Invicta’s striking black dial is protected by a scratch-resistant flame fusion crystal while the Sub has a sapphire-coated window.
Of course, we couldn’t deny the popularity of the Rolex Submariner, which was first released in 1953 and it was not even just an overnight sensation. It convinced many that the brand has a long history of producing military watches.
Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and Robert Redford even took the Rolex Submariner to greater heights when they wore it off and on-screen. Today, the watch may have evolved but it’s subtle. The core design remains, especially the black bezel and black dial as well as the oyster bracelet.
The Rolex bracelet is comfortable on the wrist too and it comes with a 21mm lug width and a clasp system. It has a satisfying clicky unidirectional bezel that features the luminous pearl and black ceramic insert. The Invicta 9937, on the other hand, is a solid and tough watch in its own right. It features luminescent geometric hour indicators.
Another key difference between the Invicta watch and the Rolex Submariner is in its case back. Sub is solid while the Pro Diver Invicta is a skeleton. So, if you prefer to see the inner workings of your watch, go for the Invicta 9937 model.
The Invicta watch is equipped with Swiss Automatic movement while the Sub is a COSC-certified Rolex caliber 3135. Both the Caliber 3135 and the automatic movements of Invicta perform expressly well. The precision and accuracy of these movements are also unique but you can guarantee that they will always display you accurate time.
Nevertheless, both automatic movements work expressly well and they come with a performance guarantee.
As for their water resistance feature, we’re not surprised that the Sub performs better. It has 300 Meters of water resistance or about 980 feet while the water resistance depth for Invicta is only 660 Feet. Still, such a feature already offers decent protection to your watch when you’re submerged underwater.
The Invicta dive watch also features a screw-down crown to prevent water infiltration. With this function, though, you first need to unscrew the crown before you can pull it out to the first or second click stop should you want to adjust the time and/or date of the watch.
We’re not divers doing this review, but the Sub is the watch model we believe is worth taking a deep dive. With 300-meter water resistance, you can already use it for a lot of water activities, such as surface water sports, professional marine activity, and scuba diving.
Are both watches worth buying?
Yes, they certainly are. The Rolex Submariner is a great iconic watch, making it a worthy investment. We just love its dive bezel. It is an evolution of a simple design, but in a way that is functional and cool.
The Invicta 9937, on the other hand, is much friendlier to the wallet compared to the Submariner. Even by looking at it, you’ll appreciate the meticulous effort it took for the watchmakers to assemble a hundred parts of this Invicta watch. It is equipped with a Swiss movement, has luminous hands and hour markers, and 5.6 ounces watch weight.

Quality and Durability
The numerals on the bezel of the Submariner are platinum filled for both legibility and durability.
We also love that the Submariner’s bracelet is made of 904L Oyster Steel and it is also equipped with a Glidelock extension system, allowing you to easily adjust the bracelet’s size. This element in the watch allows for up to 20 millimeters adjustment even without using any tools.
Meanwhile, the Invicta 9937 is also an excellent watch and everything about it screams quality too. It has a solid bracelet, an automatic movement, a coin edge bezel, and its clasp is well executed too.
It feels excellent in the hand. When setting the date and time, the date will even just roll smoothly. It has Flame Fusion dial window material, which may not be as scratch-resistance as the Sub’s sapphire crystal, but is still almost equivalent to the genuine sapphire material in terms of toughness.

If you purchased not the pre-loved Role Submariner, Rolex usually guarantees the proper functioning of such watches for a period of five years from the actual date of purchase. This excludes normal wear and tear, though, in the straps and non-metal braces. It does not also cover warranty to theft, loss, or damage because of misuse.
Invicta watches are normally backed with a comprehensive 3-year warranty from the original purchase. The warranty covers all manufacturing defects. Keep in mind that warranty claims must be accompanied by a copy of your proof of purchase.
Who are These Watches Best for?
Both the Invicta 9937 and the Rolex Submariner are marketed not just for the divers and adventurers, but the modern gentlemen in general.
The two watches are amazing and they are packed with decent features for modern life in a small package. They are precise and with a far better life than just relying on a smartphone to check time wherever you go.
Today, the Rolex watch is also a piece of go-to jewelry or accessory for influential men due to its high level of comfort and refinement.
What Do People Say About it?
A buyer from the US purchased Invicta 9937 and gave it a 5-star rating. He said, “The 9937 no longer has a sapphire crystal. Instead, it [is equipped with] some sort of hardened mineral crystal they call ‘flame fusion.’… The engineering is much better than on some of my more expensive watches. The insert fits flush with the bezel.
The bottom line, I think the 9937 is the better watch, and probably worth the price difference,” he added, comparing the Invicta 9937 to the 8926 he also owned.
Another review reads, “I am a fan of Invicta – despite “mixed” reviews on service. I personally have never needed to send a watch to Invicta, so can’t comment from experience. What I can say is that they make some very nice watches for the price – and this Swiss-auto Pro Diver is no exception. I would prefer a (synthetic) sapphire dial. That would be much better than the “Flame Fusion”. Practically speaking, you can’t scratch a sapphire crystal – you can scratch (or pit) a Flame Fusion crystal, though it is reasonably hard.”
As for the Rolex Submariner review, one buyer said, “It’s a Rolex, no need to say anymore, beautiful watch.”
Perth WAtch said, “It fits very well [on my wrist] and I can wear it with a shirt and tie, no problem at all… The strengths of this watch are that it’s got nice touches on the rotor and then its movement. The SW200 is not usually gold, but they’ve kind of finished it in that way or maybe they’ve purchased a version like that but there’s a different nice touch. It’s not the typical type of steel. And you know, it’s possibly the most affordable SW200 Swiss movement dive star watch you can get.
Bijou Diamond Jewellery, meanwhile, reviewed the Submariner. He said, “The bezel is unidirectional. So, it only moves in one direction. And that basically means that when a diver is diving, [he] can only move it in a way that means [he] has less dive time so [he doesn’t] need to be maybe over-diving or going over the amount in their tanks… There are also markers for the decompression stops. So, if you’re ascending up through a dive, you can stop off at these different decompression stops… The watch has a 48-hour reserve.”
A Reddit user shared the reason why he loves the Invicta Pro diver watch. “The best thing about the Pro Diver is how affordable it is. People will hate on it just because it’s Invicta, or because it’s a blatant submariner clone, but I have no problem with it ripping off a good-looking watch at much much less the price.”
In another Reddit thread about why some people hate the Submariner, one answered, “Same reasons a lot of people hate Apple products: General quality, high price.”
In the same thread, there was another one who shared, “Rolex is not the best brand, it doesn’t even make my top 10 of best brands. I rate Grand Seiko way above Rolex any day. Even though I am a Rolex fanboy.”
Best Alternatives: Other Invicta Watches
- Invicta Men’s Automatic Pro Diver – 35691
The Invicta Men’s Automatic Pro Diver – 35691 looks a lot like the 9937 but differs in color and style. It also differs in some other features too, including the mineral crystal, NH35A Japanese Automatic movement, and blue dial. This watch is 200 meters water-resistant.
- Invicta Men’s 5053 Pro Diver Collection Automatic Watch
The Invicta Men’s 5053 Pro Diver Collection Automatic Watch also has 24 jewels, with luminous hour markers and an exhibition case back. What makes this watch model stand out is its vibrant blue dial face with silver-tone dot and slash hour indexes. Just like other Invicta watches, this one has a convenient date window at three o’clock.
- Invicta Men’s 6981 Pro Diver Collection Chronograph Black Dial Black Dress Watch
The Invicta Men’s 6981 Pro Diver Collection Chronograph Watch uses the same flame fusion crystal but what makes it unique is its gold-tone stainless steel case, black dial, and Japanese quartz movement. It also uses a black silicone band to compliment the gold stainless steel case.
Final Thoughts: Which One Should I Buy?
Both the Invicta-9937 Men’s Pro Diver Collection and the Rolex Submariner Mechanical Watch are two of the best watches out there that serve their purposes at hand, which is diving.
But let’s not deny it, Rolex is iconic and this model that we’ve just reviewed shines brighter than ever. It steadily evolved for so many years that it got better, more reliable, and more accurate. Thanks to the new horological technologies that emerged.
We love that the Rolex Submariner is equipped with a sapphire crystal dial, its data is designed with luminescent material that provides maximum visibility even in low-light conditions, and then it has a Cyclops lens that sits on top of the date display, magnifying the date.
Therefore, if you have extra money to spend on a dive watch, it’s ideal to settle for the Submariner.
From a practical point of view, though, you may want to consider buying the Invicta-9937 Men’s Pro Diver Collection. It’s an affordable Submariner homage and is good-looking. It is also equipped with enough water resistance to withstand the pressure at depths divers would dive into.
Just pick one that interests and excites you the most and you’ll never go wrong as both of these dive watches are classic and unique in their own ways.
